Cuenca - About the place


The Independence day of the city is November 3rd. It is really nice to go at that time of the year because typical food festivals, concerts, parades are organized.

In the morning, go next to the rivers that are crossing the city and you will see the women washing their clothes there.

Churches of interest:

The old Cathedral: The Sagrario church

Luis Cordero Avenue and Mariscal Sucre.
this church exists since 1557 and has been built with some blocks of the inca Pomango Palace gold leafs and marble.

The new Cathedral: Cathedral of the immaculate conception.

Mariscal Sucre and Benigno Malo.
Started in 1880, it might be one of the largest cathedral of South America. You will enjoy the Roman and Baroque architecture.

Museums of interest:

Central Bank Museum

Archeology, colonial art, paintings, pictures. You will learn about the city and the pre-inca period.
Huyana Capac Avenue. From Monday to Friday: 9:00 - 18:00. Saturday: 9:00- 13:00



In the surroundings, several places are of interest:

Ingapirca:

This is the biggest site of Inca ruins. If you have been to Peru before, do not bother going, it is nothing compared to Cusco. But if not, it is quite interesting. Do not expect something big but you will be explained many things by the guide and the little musuem is really interesting.

National Park Cajas:

Chordeleg:

This is a village famous for its jewelery. A big selection, a lot of shops. You can go have a look. You will also find some Panama Hats there.
