COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK

The Cotopaxi National Park is an ecological sanctuary of 36,000 hectares (88,920 acres) surrounding the highest active volcano in the world, specially attractive for nature lovers, with the treeless vegetation of the Andean moorlands or páramo. You may see herds of llamas, wild horses, and perhaps deer, rabbits, frogs and lizards. Bird life includes the Andean gull, ducks, several species of hummingbirds and with some luck, the condor. Look directly up the magnificent mountain, rising 6,005 meters (19,700 feet). Lunch at the very heart of breathtaking landscapes or at a hosteria nearby before returning to Quito late afternoon. Entrance fee to Cotopaxi National Park is extra.
COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK & LUNCH AT HACIENDA HUALILAGUA

The Cotopaxi National Park is an ecological sanctuary of 36,000 hectares (88,920 acres) surrounding the highest active volcano in the world, specially attractive for nature lovers, with the treeless vegetation of the Andean moorlands or paramo. You will see llamas, wild horses, and perhaps deer, rabbits, frogs and lizards. Bird life includes the Andean gull, ducks, several species of hummingbirds and with some luck, the condor. Then proceed to Hualilagua de Jijón, one of the oldest haciendas in Ecuador, dating back to 1718, and built on the mountainside, overlooking the valley of Machachi. The charming manor house is surrounded by the stables and a garden with many native species of trees. Hualilahua produces organic cereals and vegetables used to prepare a very special lunch, representative of the richness of the Ecuadorian biodiversity. Entrance fee to Cotopaxi National Park is extra.
COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK TWO-DAY TOUR
(private, 2 days/1 night, daily from Quito)
This tour offers more time at Cotopaxi by staying overnight near the park at one of the cozy haciendas or inns of the area. On the second day, visit an Indian market. Accommodations and all meals are included. Entrance fee to Cotopaxi National Park is extra.
