Quito -Local Festivals
The most oustanding one is of course "La fiesta de Quito". During one full week, the first week of December, everybody celebrates the founding of the city.

There are many parades and events organized for the occasion: concert, dance in the street and of couse the bullfights everyday. During that weeks everything stops for the party to begin ! It's a different Quito.
New Year's Eve is also celebrated differently: to symbolize the changing of year, they create life-sized puppets of the famous people to burn them in the street at midnight. The most burned this year where Bin Laden, the president of Ecuador, the mayor of the capital and Pedro el Escamoso ( a local TV Show character). This way they leave the bad things in the past year and start the new one on new basis.
Carnaval is a tough week for tourists !!! In Quito, they celebrate the event with er fights and it's so much more fun to throw the bombs at tourists !!! So plan bring waterproof clothes !! But don't worry, everybody gets wet, you won't be only one. And they actually start to train by the end of January so don't take it sonnaly !! It's just Carnaval.
For Easter, everything will be a lot calmer with religious processions.
